FAQ

Do you have questions about school facilities, measure bonds, or any other topics related to our capital improvement projects? Please fill out the contact information below, and we will respond to you (within X hours or days).

  • Bond Measures can be complicated, but in its simplest form, they are a financial tool used to fund capital improvement projects. Bonds are presented as financial proposals to local ballots to seek voter approval.

California has a statewide school building program known as the School Facilities Fund, which is supported by statewide bond measures, such as Proposition 51 in 2016.”

These statewide bond measures are necessary to secure investments in our school facilities and provide the necessary educational environments needed for our students to succeed.

  • Bond Measure N: In November 2024, $24 million in bonds was approved to fund improvements to modernize and renovate classrooms, restrooms and other school facilities; make health, safety and security improvements; and replace aging portables with permanent classrooms.

It is currently used for the Park Side – Castle/Kindercourt project.

  • Bond Measure E: In March 2020, $17.5 million in bonds was approved to fund improvements in the quality of local schools; increase energy-efficiency by installing solar panels; make health and safety improvements; and modernize outdated classrooms, restrooms and school facilities. Measure E was previously used to:

    • Replace the elderly HVAC unit at Park Side

    • Add air conditioning at Pinecrest

    • Roofing upgrades at Park Side and Pine Crest/Sun ridge

It is currently used for the Park Side office renovation, Castle/Kindercourt, and Brook Haven portables.

  • It is important to understand that school bond funds are voter-approved and legally restricted to be used for capital projects such as building new classrooms, renovating aging facilities, improving safety and security systems, upgrading HVAC systems, and addressing critical infrastructure needs. School bond funds can not be used for salaries, instructional materials, or day-to-day operating expenses.

  • Yes, in addition to administering public Citizen Bond Oversite Committee meetings, SUSD sends notifications detailing project updates and opportunities for stakeholders and surrounding community members to share input and feedback with the project team through the contact information submission form.

  • Maintaining a safe and enriching environment for both students and staff is the district's top priority. SUSD is planning capital improvement projects to better serve the community and upgrade facilities that reflect the brilliance of our community. We are taking care to ensure that everyone is informed and supported throughout the process.

During the renovations at various parts of Parkside and Brook Haven schools, instructional activities will either take place in portable classrooms or will not be disrupted.

Please note that SUSD fields are not included in any current project scopes at the moment, so their use for educational and recreational purposes will continue without interruption.

To ensure safety, the construction team has installed fencing and security cameras around the work areas. Project updates and notifications will be provided in a timely manner. Keep up to date with updates on the Important Notices and Upcoming Events page.
