I have been working with children for about 30 years.I was an employee in the SUSD for about 12 years. My children attended SUSD from K-8th grade. And now I have three grandchildren attending the same schools. I like this District and the culture it has.  As a board member I want to be a liaison for Spanish speaking families and also serve my community. I believe every SUDS student deserves a high quality education and this place offers that and much more.

I’m a parent in the district, and my children attend SUSD schools. Since moving here in 2019, I’ve been an active volunteer at Park sSde—working in classrooms, the school garden, enrichment programs, and supporting students directly. This district is our school and my community.


I care deeply about public education and about creating schools where kids feel safe, supported, and engaged. Serving on the board allows me to be informed, accountable, and helpful in shaping decisions that directly affect students and families. I believe good governance—and thoughtful listening—matter.


I’m a small business owner, nonprofit board member, and former educator. I’ve spent years managing budgets, leading teams, fundraising, and planning for the long term. My work blends creativity with responsibility, and I bring a steady, collaborative approach to decision-making.

 

I believe every SUSD student deserves to feel safe, supported, challenged, and valued—academically, socially, and emotionally.

I’m a mom of two Brook Haven middle schoolers and a Park Side Tiger Cub. I respect and value our educators! I deeply appreciate their relentless focus on making SUSD a safe, connected, joyful learning space for all our students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. I wanted to offer my legal and finance management background to support their amazing work. I’m a former Child Welfare attorney, currently working as a corporate fiduciary, with background in public law and non-profit leadership.


 

Board Elections

On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, there will be an election for three (3) seats on the Board of Trustees. These four (4) year positions are currently held by the following members: Lisa Bauman, Deborah Drehmel, and Jonna Thomas.

Deadlines:

7/13/26 - 8/7/26 Candidate filing period 

Qualifications: 

  • Reside within SUSD boundaries
  • Be a registered voter 
  • Interested in serving for the betterment of our students

School Board Member Duties: 

  • Commit to serving four (4) years (December 2026 - December 2030)
  • Prepare for and participate in monthly meetings 
  • Attend trainings and workshops
  • Work as a collaborative group member to uphold SUSD’s Mission Statement
