Dear SUSD Families:
For decades, the Sebastopol Rotary Club has been supporting our students and teachers through its Teacher Grant program. The goal of this wonderful, charitable effort is to provide teachers with money for projects that we cannot support through school funds, but which are invaluable enhancements of their classroom’s activities. The program is funded by the proceeds of the Club’s Winter Crab Feed, which will be held this year on February 8, 2020, at Holy Ghost Hall in Sebastopol. There are two seatings for dinner at 5 and 7 pm.
Since 2002, there have been 944 awards of $50-$500, with the total worth just shy of $300,000. We have benefited significantly from the Teacher Grant program.
At Brook Haven, we’ve received four grants in the last two years, including audiobooks for Sara Castaneda’s sixth-grade class and a new paper cutter for Tera Crawford’s seventh and eighth-graders. At Park Side, we’ve received five grants in the last two years, including last year’s requests from Hayley Blondin for a printer, laminator, and supplies, and Jessica Pearsall, who asked for new classroom seats for her third and fourth graders.
I encourage you to attend. We have many fundraisers to support the school, but I’d like to ask those of you who’ve gone in the past to think about going again. And for those of you who have never been, please consider marking your calendar and buying some tickets.
Not only does the money go for a good cause, but the evening is also great fun. There is wonderfully fresh crab in enormous amounts, good wine, and great music. Don’t think of the ticket purchase as simply a donation, consider it an invitation to a delightful event – with the added benefit that your kids will have a better classroom experience because of your support.
Moreover, I want to bring to your attention a new wrinkle to the evening. The Rotary has asked us to invite our students to participate in a contest to draw a poster of the most inviting crab or crab feed West County has ever seen. Every one of the posters will be hung around the hall, and the winner will receive a $25 prize. Even better, the winner’s school’s art program will receive $100 for new art supplies.
It is a great event for a good cause. Hope you can attend.
Thanks for helping us support our schools,
