General Job Description:
The Resource Specialist provides an educational program for students who are educationally challenged who exhibit needs in their academic and social learning beyond those expected among the general student population. Students assigned to the Resource Specialist have been identified through the School Study Team and IEP process. The Resource Specialist typically works with the student in support of the classroom teacher and does not replace the student’s regular teacher. The Resource Specialist typically sees the assigned student one hour or one period per day throughout the week.
The Resource Specialist is expected to create and foster a classroom environment and atmosphere supportive of the student’s academic and social learning needs. The Resource Specialist is expected to be able to provide assistance to assigned students in any of the required academic subjects to include English-language arts, reading, mathematics, science, and social studies. An important aspect of the Resource Specialist’s responsibilities is the socialization and adaption of the student to the school environment. The Resource Specialist is expected to be an active participant in the school culture and participate in the supervision and safe operation of the campus as needed. The Resource Specialist is expected to work in a collaborative manner with school colleagues in the development and refinement of instructional programs, materials and activities that support the specific students assigned to the specialist. The Resource Specialist is expected to be a positive role model and demonstrate a profound love for education and learning.
