Where is Park Side?
Park Side is located in the center of Sebastopol, just a few
blocks from downtown, the public library, and Ives Park with a playground, pool
and baseball diamond. It is very accessible for dropping off and picking up
children. Our address is 7450 Bodega Ave, Sebastopol, CA 95472.
The entire staff at Park Side has an invested interest in developing students to become thoughtful, imaginative, progressive, and compassionate people. The curriculum goes far beyond academics to foster our children’s desire to learn about the people and world around them.

What is special about the school?
There are two special programs integrated into the classrooms and culture at Park Side:
1. Park Side is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) School, the only public school in Sonoma County offering the IB Primary Years Program (PYP). IB schools were founded to encourage a global perspective in all subjects. Spanish language instruction is provided in grades 1 through 5, and teachers work in teams to develop units to study that each year focus on six universal themes:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- Sharing the planet
The heart of the IB Program is the Learner Profile that teaches students to become thinkers, inquirers, communicators, risk takers, open-minded, balanced, caring, principled, knowledgeable and reflective.
The instructional foundation
of IB is an inquiry-based program that develops critical and higher-order
thinking skills, and focuses on the development of the whole child. The aim of
the PYP is to engender "international-mindedness" in its students so
that they leave here with an understanding of the global impact their actions
and values can and do have on the planet we all share. To learn more about IB, please visit the website at http://www.ibo.org/.
2. Park Side uses the Toolbox Project, a social-emotional
learning curriculum that fosters the development of resilience, self-mastery,
and empathy in students. Examples of some of the 12 tools that students are
encouraged to use include the Listening tool, the Apology and Forgiveness tool,
the Personal Space tool, and the Courage tool.
After recently relocating to Sebastopol we were drawn to the International Baccalaureate program offered at Parkside Elementary for our kindergartener and second grader. The IB learner profile is an excellent match with our family goals and values, for education and for life. It has been great getting to know this wonderful school community.— Katharine
Who attends Park Side?
Park Side families choose the school for a variety of
reasons — the unique IB program, convenience, a commitment to public school
education, an interest in being part of a school community that
values its diversity and is committed to globally-minded citizens.
When relocating to the Santa Rosa area, we chose Sebastopol primarily because of Park Side School and CASTLE (the before and after-school program located on campus). We were impressed by the diverse student population, the cohesive and exciting curriculum resulting from the IB program, and the excellent art and drama programs.

Is there a childcare program?
The Sebastopol Union School
District offers an extended child care program for grades K-6, as well as a
preschool for children ages three and four, on-site at Park Side School
from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Care is provided before and after school as well as
on school vacation days and during the summer. CASTLE (Children's After School
Transitional Learning Environment), provides flexible hours and accepts subsidy
payments. For more information, see
their website: http://sebastopolschools.org/castlechildcare.html.
Park Side offers a rare combination – a public school serving a diverse community, combined with an alternative approach that goes far beyond the basic curriculum.
